The TRAK DRO |
New DRO's can be added to a machine from our showroom, or professionally installed on your existing machine. |

Glass and magnetic scales are good, but for some measurement problems, you should consider an alternative.
TRAK DRO systems are different. Instead of scales, they use time-tested TRAK Sensors. For many applications, the TRAK Sensors present unique advantages.

|
The TRAK DRO advantage
Long travel machines.
Since the TRAK DRO uses the same encoder regardless of travel length, it is an economical alternative to scale systems for long travels.
Difficult applications
A TRAK Sensor is easy to mount in an out-of-the-way location, even on a machine that is difficult for scale mounting.
Harsh environments
TRAK systems are made to resist harsh environments. The display and sensors have rugged aluminum die-cast cases that are sealed with gaskets. Encoder cables are armored and shielded.

The TRAK sensor

Motion is detected by the encoder wheel, which is mounted against a running surface. A special mounting base pushes the wheel and the unique scriggly pattern on the wheel is impressed into the running surface.

This forms a rack-and-pinion system that prevents slipping. As the wheel moves, it turns a pinion connected to a Hewlett Packard rotary encoder. The electronics inside the TRAK Sensor are totally protected from contamination by a gasket-sealed exclusion plate.

Machines where the TRAK DRO is especially recommended
Lathes The TRAK Sensor may be mounted away from the chips and coolant that ruin scales.
Vertical Turret Lathes Long travels make the TRAK DRO the economical choice.
Horizontal Boring Mills long travels and difficult scale mounting makes TRAK DRO the low-cost and easy-to-install alternative.
Grinders You can easily mount the TRAK Sensor away from grinding dust. Easy maintenance keeps the system functioning year after year.
Large milling machines and long-travel lathes The TRAK DRO is the most economical and easiest to install.
